Description
A recent JWST near-infrared picture of part of the Ophiuchus star-forming region, Ophiuchus A, using the NIRCAM instrument at 1-5 microns, shows more detailed structure in this region than has ever been seen before in a single image. We use this image to further interpret our results from the B-fields in Star-forming Region Observations (BISTRO) Survey using submm polarization data taken with the JCMT at 850 microns. We further compare our data with polarimetry from SOFIA at 89 microns.
We are able to disentangle the B-field component in the cold dust (~10K) from the B-field component in the warm dust (~30K), since the former is traced by JCMT in the submm and the latter is traced by SOFIA in the far-infrared. This allows us to infer which B-field components are foreground and which are embedded within structure in the region. Hence, we finally attempt a three-dimensional interpretation of the magnetic field structure in this region.
