Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • Do I need to be a fellow of the RAS to propose a session or abstract at NAM?
    • No you do not need to be a fellow of the RAS to propose a NAM session or submit a presentation abstract.

  • Does everyone on the organising committee for a parallel or lunchtime session need to be present in person?
    • No it is not necessary for all of your organising committee to be present either in person or remotely (as we will have an on-line attendance option). But you should ensure that you have a sufficient number of organisers, some of which must be in person, to organise and chair the session.

  • Can I submit an abstract to give a presentation in a session during the session proposal call?
    • No, the session proposal call is for proposals for sessions that people want to organise, with their own organising team. Once the sessions for NAM have been selected and announced we will then have a call for abstracts for presentations in these sessions.

  • How much does it cost to register for NAM?
    • The registration fees for NAM are available on our participant registration page. We offer both in person and on line participation attendance.

  • Can you provide financial support for me to attend NAM?
    • Our budget for NAM is tight and we have limited options to provide financial support. We have opened a call for applications for fee waivers for attendees with limited support via application but we can only offer a small number of fee waivers to those with the greatest need so apologies in advance if your application is unsuccessful. Also, note, there is an online attendance option for which we charge a nominal fee (£50).

  • How long are the parallel and lunchtime sessions?
    • Parallel sessions are arranged in blocks where 1 block=90 mins. The lunchtime sessions are 45 mins.

  • When will you publish the conference programme for NAM?
    • We are aiming to publish the detailed conference programme by mid May. It is not possible to define the full programme until after the parallel session organisers have selected the presenters for their sessions and sent us their schedules.

  • Do I need to register for NAM before submitting an abstract?
    • No - you can submit an abstract for NAM and then register later. Note, the registration deadline is 3 months after the abstract deadline.

  • Can I submit more than one abstract?
    • Yes - there is not a restriction on the number of abstracts an individual can submit although it is not advisable to submit many abstracts to the same session.

  • Are virtual talks supported at NAM?
    • Yes - virtual talks can be given at NAM. We will be using Zoom for all talks.

  • Can session organisers submit abstracts for their own session?
    • Yes - abstract assessment should be conducted anonymously by the session organisers and an organiser cannot vote on their own abstract but otherwise it is completely fine for session organisers to submit an abstract.

  • Will posters remain up for the full week of NAM?
    • Yes - posters will be up for the full week of NAM.

  • What format should I print my poster for NAM?
    • We will provide information a month before the start of NAM. We are expecting that posters can be A0 portrait, however, if we receive more posters than we can accommodate at that size then we will request posters to be A1 landscape. So please wait for our message on the required size and orientation of your poster.

  • Can I present my poster online?
    • No - we have no means to facilitate online poster presentations. If you were granted a poster presentation, you will have to attend in person to present it. However, we allow for poster presenters to forego attendance in person (along with presenting their poster) and opt to only give an online flash talk/poster pitch during the session (upon registering for online element) - assuming that the session will have such element, you were offered to give a flash talk/poster pitch by your session organisers and they agreed for online flash talks/poster pitches to take place.

Also, bear in mind that usually during flash talk/poster pitch no slides are allocated to the presenter, so normally you wouldn't be allowed to show your poster in this element of the session. However, this is subject to specific session organiser's decision - so please verify with them.

  • Do I have to register for attendance and pay the fee if I'm; presenting a poster / presenting a talk / presenting an invited talk / session organiser.
    • Yes - you will still have to pay the fee if you are providing a contribution during NAM 2025. Unlike poster presenters (mentioned above), people that were granted a talk can register for online element only and give their talk online - assuming that the session organisers have also agreed to this.
If you are a session organiser and there are multiple other people organising the session with you - we don't expect for everyone to attend in person, but the number of delegates for your session attending in person should be enough to ensure the session runs smoothly.

  • Does NAM provide childcare?
    • NAM will not provide any supervised childcare, but there will be a separate room available for the use of anyone with small children, including a mini-fridge for cold storage. Recommendations for external childcare options can be found on the Accessibility page.
