Cakes for Good at NAM

What is Cakes for Good?

Cakes for Good is a monthly charity bake sale held in the Astronomy department at Durham. Each month members of the department volunteer to bake and then sell their cakes, with the profits going to a charity suggested by members of the department.

Cakes for Good was founded by PhD students Martina and Carolina and postdoc Anna in 2022, and has been running monthly ever since, with Leah joining the team in 2023 and Ciera joining in 2024. Since 2022, we have raised over £4500 for over 25 different charities. You can find out more about us on our website.

Cakes for Good at NAM

We are very excited to host Cakes for Good during NAM this year, inviting NAM attendees to join in and raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance, a local charity that provides lifesaving, critical care services by air and road across the North East, Cumbria, North Yorkshire and the Isle of Man.

The Cakes for Good NAM bake sale will be happening during the Monday afternoon coffee break (15.45-16.15, location TBC). We have a suggested donation of £4 per slice of cake, which can be made in cash or by PayPal QR code, but any contributions are very appreciated!

We will have a number of cake options, catering to a range of dietary requirements, all baked by members of our department! However, please note we are not professional bakers, and all cakes will have been baked in our own kitchens, where allergens may be present. If in doubt, you can still take part by donating and we will have some stickers up for grabs!
