Description
Inspired by deep field images from HST and JWST, over the last year we have created several artworks with the public during events such as festivals and local county and agricultural shows. The concept is simple: the longer we look the more we see.
At the start of the day, we lay out a blank board painted black with acrylic paint markers. As we talk to people about astronomy, we introduce them to images like the Hubble Ultra Deep Field and explain how it was captured and what it shows. We then encourage them to add to the board, to think about what they want to see/find in space. Over the day, the boards fill up with stars, planets, galaxies, nebulae, and usually a number of aliens.
In this session I want to introduce those interested in the creative engagement of the public with Astronomy to this activity to encourage them to adopt it, using past examples and a new blank board for NAM participants.
